The number of calls for smart fridge repairs has tripled in my area since 2021
Last week alone, I had three jobs for fridges with dead control boards. It's always the same story, the fancy touchscreen goes dark but the compressor still runs. Anyone else seeing this wave and have a go-to supplier for those boards that doesn't cost a fortune?

Saw a tech blog last year talking about this exact thing. They said manufacturers are using cheap capacitors on those smart fridge boards that can't handle the heat cycles. It's always the power supply section that fries. I've had luck with a seller on eBay called "Board-Bro" for a Samsung model, but it's still a gamble. Honestly, considering just bypassing the smart features with a basic thermostat kit for some clients.

William_garcia is right about the cheap parts, but nobody talks about the forced updates. These things phone home and get software that the old hardware can't run. Saw a fridge that worked fine until it downloaded a new menu layout and the processor overloaded. It's planned failure. We're fixing the same problem the manufacturers designed on purpose.
