Tried to fix a dryer with a vacuum and a prayer, ended up with a sock stuck to my forehead

The belt was fine, but the static from my shop vac made a whole load of socks cling to the drum like glue. Anyone know a better way to deal with that crazy static buildup?

Seriously, is static cling from a vacuum really that big of a deal?

Honestly, the static cling is the worst. I once pulled a t-shirt out of my own dryer and it stuck to my chest like I was a superhero with a really lame, laundry-based power. Felt like a walking dryer sheet for an hour. Maybe try wiping the drum down with a damp cloth before you start? The moisture might help.

Wow, that's a new one.

Used to think static was just a little annoyance until I tried to vacuum out my own dryer. I mean, I pulled the hose away and a cloud of lint and a pair of my kid's tiny socks just flew up and stuck to the front of my shirt. It looked ridiculous. That kind of convinced me it's a real problem you have to deal with, maybe with that damp cloth idea.
