Tried using a shop vac as a leaf blower on a service call in Phoenix last summer
I was in a hurry to clear dust out of a dryer vent and my regular blower was dead, so I flipped the hose around on my shop vac. It shot dust EVERYWHERE for a good 5 seconds before the motor started smoking and I unplugged it in a panic. Has anyone else tried some weird tool swap that backfired in the heat?

That shop vac smoking in the Phoenix heat sounds like a real nightmare. Were you at least able to finish the job after that, or did you have to call it quits and go buy a new blower? I'm just curious how bad the smoke got before you yanked the plug.

Yank it fast, that smoke means the motor windings are cooking. Let it sit for an hour, you might finish the job, but the blower's done for.

Oh man, I've been there with a shop vac smoking in the heat! You gotta yank that plug fast, any smoke means something's melting inside. Most of the time you can let it cool down for an hour and finish the job, but that blower motor is usually toast and you'll need a new one for next time.
