Why I risked sparks to turn a microwave part into a shop tool

Last month, I pulled the transformer from a dead microwave to build a spot welder for thin metal fixes. Some call it crazy, but I believe getting your hands dirty with components teaches repairs no book can. Do you think we should try this risky DIY, or only use safe methods?

It's funny how we're told to just replace things now, but taking stuff apart is how you really learn what's going on. That hands-on knowledge from a risky fix sticks with you way longer than reading a manual.

But what if the manual's wrong? @jade_jenkins gets that.

Come on, it's not like every old gadget is a bomb waiting to go off. Most of the time you're just dealing with a loose wire or some dust. People act like opening something up is a life or death situation.

Just discharge the capacitor first, every time. That's the only way to make it safe.
