My vacation in the redwoods changed how I plan anchor points
Seeing those giants sway in the wind made me see natural movement is bigger than I figured (it's kinda beautiful). Now I leave more slack in my rigging for younger trees.

Ever crank those straps too tight? I once got a surprise launch from a young tree!

My first setup in the Smokies taught me that lesson. I cinched a maple sapling down like it was a truck strap and woke up on the ground. You really do need to let those young trees sway a bit.

Wow, my buddy learned that the hard way when his hammock anchors pulled loose on a camping trip. He just didn't leave enough give for the smaller trees to move.

My cousin Jake made that exact mistake last year in Yosemite. He cranked the straps until the young pines had no wiggle room at all. The resulting crash was his free alarm clock at dawn.
