He wasn't wrong either, my old bow saw was leaving torn bark on every oak limb over 2 inches, so now I do all my reduction cuts by hand and the wounds close way cleaner, but I'm wondering if anyone else switched back to hand saws for bigger limbs or am I just slow now?
Why spend 40 minutes on a cut a chainsaw does in 40 seconds? A sharp chain with a good technique leaves a clean wound too, and you can pick up a decent top handle for the price of a few hand saws. The torn bark thing is usually a dull chain or pushing too hard, not the tool itself. Sounds like you traded speed for a small gain in cut quality.
