Tried a fancy new chainsaw chain vs my old skip tooth on a big maple yesterday
The new one cut smooth but bogged down in the thick stuff, my old skip tooth just ripped through with less cleanup. Has anyone else found that simpler chain designs beat the high-end options for heavy work?

Nah, I gotta push back a little here. When you say "skip tooth just rips through big wood," are you talking about green wood or seasoned? In my experience the sap and moisture level changes everything with chain performance. A skip tooth can get grabby in wet maple if the rakers aren't filed just so.

Skip the fancy stuff and stick with skip tooth for big wood. Less teeth mean less binding and faster cuts in my experience. High end chains are just marketing hype for most real work.
