Field school in Utah taught me to distrust shiny artifacts

I spent 3 weeks at a dig near Moab and found a pristine looking projectile point that turned out to be a modern replica some volunteer dropped as a prank. Now I check the patina and flaking pattern on EVERYTHING before I get excited, has anyone else dealt with fakes planted at active sites?
