Found an old photo of my grandma's kitchen from 1968 and compared it to now

Honestly, I was going through some boxes in my attic last weekend and found a photo of my grandma's kitchen in Buffalo from 1968. The stove was this tiny gas one with no digital display and the sink was just a simple white basin. Now her kitchen has granite countertops and a double oven, but I kinda miss that old layout. Has anyone else noticed how much kitchens have changed or do you prefer the modern stuff?

Oh man, that old stove sounds SO much better than what we have now! Did the simpler layout actually make her cook differently or was it just the look of things? I'd be curious if you think losing that old setup changed how the kitchen actually felt to be in.

Ha! @iris927 you're asking the real questions here lol. I bet that old stove had some kind of mystical power to make everything taste better - like vintage kitchen magic or something. Now it's probably just sad and making mediocre stir fry in a remodeled room that feels like a dentist's office waiting room.

Nail that old stove probably had a single temperature setting - "hot as hell" - and she just knew when to pull stuff out. Modern ovens beep at you for everything. I think about the cabinets too. Old ones were shallow, you could actually reach the back. Now they're deep and you lose a blender back there for months. Plus older kitchens had windows above the sink that actually opened. Let steam escape. New ones seal you in like a terrarium.
