I was sure ground-penetrating radar was overkill for a small dig until last month
We were mapping a site near Flagstaff and I wanted to stick with old-school grid and trowel work. My partner insisted we rent a GPR unit for a day, which cost about $400. After just two hours, it showed three clear subsurface anomalies we would have missed completely. Now I get why you start with the tech even on small projects. Has anyone else had a simple tool change their whole dig plan?

GPR is a total game changer, right?

Oh man, a total game changer? More like a total wallet emptier. Sure, it's cool tech until you see the price tag for a decent survey. Then it's just a fancy way to find out you can't afford to fix what's buried in your yard.

That "game changer" talk from jamie940 always makes me laugh. You found some weird spots in the dirt, great. Now you get to dig them up and probably find old pipes or a rock. It's not like you uncovered a lost city.
