Just learned the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been guarded NONSTOP since 1937

I was reading some random article last night about Arlington Cemetery and stumbled on this fact. The guards have been standing watch 24/7 for over 80 years, through hurricanes, blizzards, even 9/11 when the Pentagon was hit. They actually have a specific SOP for what to do if the tomb floods or gets damaged. I knew it was a big deal but I had no idea it was that intense. Anyone else ever get caught off guard by how serious military honors can be?

Respect earned is never accidental, that's for damn sure.

My grandfather used to tell me that, and I always rolled my eyes until I saw how he treated everyone the same.

Tell that to people born into rich families.
