My $200 drone saved our dig site from a huge mistake
We were mapping a potential burial mound in New Mexico last month and almost started digging in the wrong spot. Our old survey maps were off by about 15 feet. I finally caved and bought a basic mapping drone for around $200. The aerial shots it took showed a clear soil discoloration pattern we completely missed from ground level. It literally showed us where to put our first test trench. Has anyone else had a cheap piece of tech totally bail out a project like that?

My friend's crew almost built a fence three feet into a protected wetland area. They had a cheap GPS app on a phone that pinged the real boundary line. Totally saved them a massive fine, and @mia700 is right, that kind of mistake ruins everything.

My buddy who does land surveys almost lost a client last year because his crew was about to mark a property line wrong. He had a cheap laser distance thing, the kind you get at a hardware store, and he double checked on a hunch. It showed they were off by like ten feet because of a weird angle. That fifty dollar tool saved him from a massive lawsuit.

Ten feet off on a property line? That's not a small mistake, that's a whole different lot. I'm shocked a cheap laser caught that when the pro gear didn't. His hunch was worth more than gold.

Can't believe you almost dug in the wrong spot... that's a huge deal. A fifteen foot mistake could have ruined everything. That drone really did save you.
