My professor insisted the Roman road near my town was just a local path

A new dig this spring found actual Roman coins and mile markers along the route, proving it was a major trade link. Has anyone else had a local site turn out to be way more important than experts thought?

Yeah, that happens more than people think. There's a small fort near my old school that was listed as a minor outpost for decades. Then they did some ground scans and found the foundations of a huge bathhouse and storage complex. Turns out it was a key supply depot. Experts can only work with what they've dug up so far, and sometimes the full story is still buried.

Totally reminds me of what @wilson.joseph said about that fort.
