Pro tip: trust the guy who told me to skip the carbon dating lab and use stratigraphy first
My field supervisor in Arizona kept nagging me to read the soil layers before sending samples off, thought he was just old fashioned. Spent $600 on carbon dating a bone that turned out to be from a 1940s trash pit, layers made that obvious right away. Anyone else waste grant money because they trusted a machine over an old timer's eyes?
