Rant: Overheard a tour guide at the Pompeii site say 'it was just a normal town' and that's the whole point.
That casual line about a baker's oven being found with 81 loaves still inside hit me harder than any grand lecture about the eruption ever did.

Oh man, that's exactly it. It wasn't just a normal town, it was a town full of people having a totally normal day. That's what makes it so wild to think about.

Read an article about how places like that make you realize how thin the line is between normal life and something totally different. Really sticks with you.
