Rant: That $150 ground-penetrating radar rental was a total bust

I used to think geophysics gear was overhyped until I rented a GPR unit for a site survey near Flagstaff and it just gave us blobs of nothing, turns out the clay soil killed it. Ended up digging test pits anyway and saving $150 on the rental fee I wasted, has anyone else found cheaper methods that actually work on tricky ground?

Honestly, we just used a $30 soil probe and old survey maps, worked way better than that fancy rental.
