Serious question, why do parents act like old family artifacts are just junk to toss?

Those heirlooms could hold clues to our history that no book can teach!

Okay, but how much of that 'lost history' is really a big deal? Like, my mom kept every birthday card from the 90s, but it's just a pile of basic well wishes. Old tax papers and receipts are not going to tell our family story. Sure, some photos matter, but not every blurry shot needs saving. Parents are probably just tired of the clutter and want a clean house. Letting go of some stuff can be okay.

My aunt threw out my dad's old baseball glove and he still brings it up.

My grandparents tossed boxes of old letters and photos, it still hurts to think about that lost history.

That "tossed boxes" feeling is why I now scan every old photo I find, you know?
