Switched my field notebook to waterproof paper after losing a weeks worth of dig notes in the rain

I used to use a regular spiral notebook when I was doing survey work at a site outside of Santa Fe. Last spring a sudden storm hit and by the time I got back to the truck my notes were just mush, total loss of like 40 pages of coordinates and stratigraphy observations. Now I use Rite in the Rain paper and a pencil, I mean you can literally dunk it and it still holds up. It costs more, about $12 a notebook versus $3, but honestly that one rainstorm cost me way more in rework time. Has anyone else had a field gear failure that forced you to change your whole documentation setup?
