Been looking at deep sky photos all week and noticed something weird about exposure times

I read on Cloudy Nights that stacking 30 second subs gets you cleaner data than one 15 minute exposure for galaxies, even though total time is the same. Which camp are you in, short exposures with heavy stacking or long single frames?

Murphy's got a point, though my stacking attempts usually look like a blurry mess.

It's funny you bring this up because I've noticed the exact same pattern playing out in how I learn stuff. Short lessons every day stick way better than cramming for hours on a weekend. Same with cooking - I'd rather do a quick marinade overnight than try to force flavor in a single long soak. Your mileage may vary, but to me it feels like data collection works the same way. Those 30 second subs give your software more to work with for noise reduction, kind of like how my brain fills in gaps when I revisit a topic multiple times instead of once.

My cat does the same thing with napping.
