My 8 year old star tracker finally gave up last night

Took my old iOptron SkyTracker out to the usual spot near Flagstaff, the one where I've shot the Milky Way core every summer since 2016. Last night it started making this grinding noise around the 3 minute mark and the stars turned into little trails. Just wore out I guess. Honestly I've probably put 500 plus nights on that thing. It got me thinking how different astrophotography is now. Back then my buddy laughed at me for even trying long exposures on a DSLR without a goto mount. Now folks stack 200 frames from their phone. Guess I'm just wondering, do you all replace gear when it dies or do you try to fix it? I'm leaning toward repair since that mount has been with me for so many trips.
