My backyard astrophotography is fighting a losing battle with porch lights.

Every new house on the street adds another source of glare. At this rate, I'll have to pack up and head to the desert.

Porch lights make you move to the desert?

Organize a neighborhood blackout, or just buy everyone blackout curtains.

Hey @charlesk88, I dealt with something like this when new LED streetlights went in... they were way too bright for sleeping. At first, I thought about getting everyone to complain to the city, but that seemed like a hassle. Instead, I just bought blackout curtains for my place and told my immediate neighbors about them. A bunch of them ended up getting their own after seeing how well mine worked... it spread kind of naturally. Organizing a blackout might be fun for community building, but curtains solve the problem without any drama. In my case, the curtains were a sure thing while planning an event could have fallen through.

In my suburb, fixes spread quietly like that, no meetings.
