PSA: I spent $140 on a 'planetary filter set' that turned my Jupiter shots into muddy orange discs
Bought a 4-piece color filter kit from a guy on a Facebook astro group back in January for $140, thinking it would fix the washed out bands on my Jupiter pics from my 6 inch Dob in the backyard. Turns out stacking a #80A blue filter with my cheap 2x barlow just smeared everything into a blurry orange blob, and Jupiter was only 40 degrees up from my driveway in Tucson so the seeing was already junk. Has anybody actually gotten usable color out of these things, or did I just light $140 on fire for a plastic case and four little glass discs?
Ugh, that stings. It's like buying a fancy phone case that just makes the phone heavier... gear always promises more than it delivers. A cheap blue filter plus a barlow is a recipe for mush, you're better off shooting without filters on a good night.
