PSA: That viral photo of the Andromeda galaxy isn't what you think

Found out that famous shot with the crisp spiral arms was actually a composite of 400+ exposures stacked over 4 nights at El Sauce Observatory, not a single frame. Anyone else feel a bit misled by those posted as 'single exposure' shots?

Whoa, I'll be honest, I used to think those shots were just one lucky snap too. But seeing how many exposures and nights go into one image really changed my mind on the whole thing. It's still a real photo of the galaxy, just not the way most people picture it being taken. I mean, stacking that many images to get that level of detail is still impressive work, even if it's not a single click. Kinda makes you appreciate the effort more, actually.

Wait, but where do you draw the line between a "real photo" and something that's been processed too much? Like, stacking images is one thing, but then you've got all the color mapping and noise reduction software doing its thing too. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it - the results are amazing. But at what point does it stop being a photograph and start being more of a digital reconstruction?
