PSA: We're letting go of what made astro photos special
Back then, you had to know the sky to even find your target. Now, go-to scopes and phone apps do all the finding for you. I miss the thrill of finally spotting something after a long search. That feeling taught you respect for the cosmos. Don't let convenience strip away the real joy of the hunt.

My go-to scope is the only reason I don't just take pictures of Jupiter every single night. I'd never find anything else.

Try blaming the scope for your lack of cosmic variety.

Remember that article about how GPS killed our sense of direction? It's kind of the same thing. We traded the skill of reading a map for just getting there easy. Maybe the real win is just getting more people to look up, even if they didn't have to sweat for it first.

But honestly, isn't the main thing that people are still looking up? Apps just make it less frustrating for beginners.
