Rant: The $600 telescope I bought last March made me hate my old photos

I spent years using a cheap 4-inch scope from the 90s and honestly thought my shots of the Orion Nebula were good. Last March I finally dropped $600 on a used 8-inch Dobsonian and the difference is embarrassing. The old photos look like blurry smudges compared to the detail I get now, 3 times more surface area makes that much of a difference. I wish someone had told me to skip the small upgrade and save for a bigger mirror from the start. Did anyone else stick with beginner gear way too long?

My buddy kept his 4-inch for ten years before borrowing my 8-inch and almost sold his scope that week.
