Serious question, did anyone else think stacking photos was just about adding more light?

I was stacking 50 shots of the Orion Nebula last month and the final image looked worse than a single frame. A friend pointed out I had alignment turned off in DeepSkyStacker, so all the stars were blurred. Has anyone else made a simple software mistake that ruined hours of work?

Honestly that's just part of the learning curve. Gotta mess up the settings a few times to really get it.

Wasting time on bad settings just teaches you to be afraid of the machine.

Yeah, "part of the learning curve" is a nice way to say I've ruined a few projects. But hey, now I know what every terrible setting looks and sounds like. Consider it a very loud lesson.

Ever try just reading the manual first?
