Why I think stacking hundreds of images ruins the art of astrophotography

I see a lot of folks in this group praising deep image stacking to remove all noise from their shots. Honestly, I think it makes the photos look too clean and fake, losing the real feel of the night sky. For example, my best photo last year was a single frame of the Milky Way with some grain, and it captured the dark, quiet mood way better than any stacked version. Let's not forget that sometimes a bit of imperfection tells a truer story.

Totally feel that, noise can add texture and make it feel real. My single exposures always have more soul than my sterile stacked attempts. Sometimes the tech just kills the vibe.

Wait, you only do single exposures now? That takes guts for night shots, right?

Yeah, that "sterile stacked attempts" line really hit home. What makes them feel so lifeless to you, is it the loss of that random spark or does the editing just get too perfect?

My old 30-second single shot from Joshua Tree has more feeling than any 20-image stack I've ever made. The stacking just averages out all the little moments of weird light and atmosphere.
