Digital torque specs vs feel, my transmission mistake in Denver
Used to just feel my way through bell housing bolts. 25 years of torque wrench use, thought I had it dialed. Then last month I rebuilt a 4L60E for a customer's Silverado. Snugged the valve body bolts like always. Two weeks later it starts slipping. Turns out I overtorqued two of them by about 8 ft-lbs. Warped the separator plate. Cost me a rebuild and a pissed off customer. Now I look up every single spec on my phone before I touch anything. Even the ones I know. Digital torque adapter too, not just the clicker. Has anyone else gotten burned by trusting their hands on critical fasteners? What's your cutoff for looking it up?

...my buddy runs a shop over in Aurora and he did the same thing on a transfer case once. Trusted his feel on the pump cover bolts, stripped two holes clean out. Had to helicoil both and eat the labor. He still talks about it like it happened yesterday.
