Fired a guy on a Friday, then did 14 brake jobs solo the next week and finally slept good
Two Fridays back I let go of my second guy after he cross threaded a lug on a customer's F-150 and tried to hide it with a torque wrench, which is the one move I can't forgive in this shop. The next Monday my only other tech caught the flu, so I ran the whole bay alone from 7am to 7pm for six days straight and knocked out 14 brake jobs plus a clutch on a beat 2001 Civic. I was so fried by Wednesday I poured coolant in my coffee cup and almost drank it, but here's the part that got me: every single ticket came back clean and I actually felt less stressed without somebody rushing me. It made me wonder if I've been hiring warm bodies just to look busy instead of being picky. For the shop owners on here, how many guys do you keep on payroll before the extra hands cost you more than they save?
