I miss the days when cars had actual dipsticks for the transmission

Went to check the fluid on my neighbors 2019 Honda last week and there was no dipstick. Just a sealed plug. Had to pull out my scan tool just to see if the temp was right for checking. My first shop truck was a 78 F150 and I could diagnose half the transmission issues just by smell and color on the rag. Now everything is a computer guessing game. Is this just how it is now or do some newer cars still have old school dipsticks I don't know about?

Heard a mechanic say some Toyotas still have them.

Yeah but most newer ones are chains now though...

2003 Corolla I had still had the original timing chain at 280k miles. Thing never skipped a beat. That engine was basically bulletproof. They switched to chains in the mid 2000s on most models. Some people still think belts are quieter but I'll take reliability over noise any day. Belts on interference engines are just a ticking time bomb waiting to bend valves.
