Just learned some 2024 Ford trucks have a TSB for the 10R80 transmission that makes no damn sense

Was digging through service bulletins yesterday for a 2024 F-150 that's been giving me a hard shift into 5th. Found a TSB (24-2045 or something close) that basically says "if the customer complains about harsh shifting, reflash the PCM and then drive it through 40 shift cycles at partial throttle." Forty cycles! Who has time for that? I tried it on the customer's truck and it took almost 20 minutes of just driving in circles. Has anyone else run into these ridiculous relearn procedures on the newer Fords? What do you do with a customer who doesn't want to pay for that kind of diag time?

Respectfully, I gotta push back on this one. Those 40 cycle relearns are annoying to do but skipping them just kicks the can down the road, I've seen trucks come back a week later with the same complaint because someone only did 10 cycles and called it good. The way I handle it with customers is I tell them upfront that the fix involves some drive time, so we either agree on a flat rate for the whole job or I have them come back when I can take their truck for a dedicated test drive loop. Yeah it takes 20 minutes of boring driving, but chasing a comeback for a hard shift that I didn't fully fix takes way longer than that.

Yeah, I hear you on the 20 minute loop but those 40 cycle relearns on some of these newer trucks actually need full temp range shifts, not just a straight drive... a short loop won't cut it if the trans never gets up to operating temp.

Buddy of mine @jade517 skipped the full cycle on a Silverado and had the customer back in his bay three days later for the same hard 2-3 shift. Took him longer to redo the whole thing than if he'd just done the loop the first time. Lesson learned hard.
