Rant: customer told me he can just watch a youtube video and do it himself
Some guy in a 2018 F150 came in Friday complaining about a weird vibration. I found a busted motor mount, quoted him $420 for parts and labor. He laughed and said he saw a 10 minute video showing the whole thing, so he'll just do it himself in his driveway. I just nodded and handed him the keys, but I'm curious how that works out when he realizes he needs a hoist or a jack and a lot of patience. Has anyone else had a customer come back a week later with a bigger problem after trying the video route?

Man, that brings back a story. A buddy of mine tried the same thing with his wife's CR-V, watched a video on replacing the alternator. He got it done but stripped one of the bolts on the bracket, so now the whole thing rattles like crazy and he had to pay a shop twice what the part cost to fix it. He still tells people the video was easy, but I've seen him curse at that engine bay more than once since.
