TIL my torque wrench was 15 ft-lbs off on a brake caliper job
Last Saturday I was swapping rotors and pads on a buddy's 2015 F-150. Got to torquing the caliper bracket bolts to spec, and one of them just felt... wrong. Snapped it clean off at 85 ft-lbs when the book says 70. Borrowed a Snap-on from the shop down the road to check my old Craftsman, and it was reading 15 high. Anybody else ever found out their gear was way out of spec at the worst possible moment?

Snapped a bolt myself doing the same thing, felt like a real torque warrior.

Respectfully, snapping a bolt is just part of learning the hard way. Torque wrenches are worth the money if you don't want to drill out broken studs on a Sunday afternoon. Live and learn, but that's a mistake you only make once.
