Took me 6 years to figure out my torque wrench was clicking but not actually torquing

Did you ever check it with a torque tester or just kind of go on faith that the clicking was working? I had a similar thing happen with a cheap beam-style wrench where the needle was bent but I didn't notice for way too long. On high torque settings it would just slip past the mark and I'd over-tighten everything. What kind of stuff were you torquing that had enough room for error for that long without a bolt snapping or something stripping out?

People freak out way too much about torque wrenches like we're building rocket ships.

Whoa, hold on. Did you actually send that beam-style wrench back and make the store test it to prove the needle was bent, or did you just pitch it and move on?
