Watched a buddy's engine bay go from greasy to showroom clean in 45 minutes using a dollar store degreaser and a pressure washer.
He sprayed that blue stuff all over, let it sit exactly 5 minutes, hit it with the pressure washer, and I swear the valve cover looked new - has anyone else found a random cheap cleaner that actually works better than the expensive stuff?

That dollar store stuff stripped the clear coat off my buddy's valve cover in two washes.

That dollar store degreaser trick is wild, I've seen the same thing with a cheap foaming oven cleaner on some nasty rims that came out perfect. It's almost like the expensive stuff is just marking up the same basic chemicals.

Tbh, oven cleaner and degreasers are totally different beasts. Oven cleaner is caustic as heck and will eat through clear coat way faster than a degreaser will, so that valve cover story checks out.

That blue stuff is just a citrus-based degreaser, not the oven cleaner Rowan mentioned, so they work totally different. I've found the key is always testing a small spot first before hosing the whole bay down, you learn that the hard way once.
