I used to call brokers for every car shipment, now I only read reviews first and it saved me $540
Back in 2019 I shipped my Civic from Phoenix to Seattle and just called the first broker I found on Google. The guy quoted me $850, then a week later said the carrier wanted $1,200 or my car would sit. I paid it because I had no choice. Now I spend 30 minutes reading reviews on this site and a few others before I even give anyone my number. Last month I moved a Forester from Denver to Chicago for $660 with a carrier that had 40+ good reviews and zero deposit games. My old way cost me almost double because I never checked if the broker had a pattern of bait and switch quotes. Why do so many people still skip the review step and just trust the first quote they see?
My cousin got quoted $700 for a move from Tampa to Atlanta last spring and the carrier showed up wanting $1,050, said the original quote was for a "different weight class" whatever that means. There was a thread on here where a guy broke down how brokers post fake low quotes just to get your number, then the real price comes out once your car is already on the truck. That's why I always look for reviews that mention the final price matching the quote, not just "fast pickup" or whatever. Takes 20 minutes and saves you from being stuck with no options.
