30 hours of bench testing finally convinced me to trust IR thermometers

I always used contact probes for checking circuit board temps until I logged 30 hours troubleshooting a glitchy radar altimeter last month. The IR gun caught a 12 degree hotspot on a regulator that my probe missed completely. Has anyone else found a tool they swore by that turned out to be wrong?
