Chat with a pilot in Phoenix about a squawk that kept coming back

He said 'you guys are wizards, but sometimes the magic smoke just wants out.' Anyone else get that feeling on a repeater?

That "magic smoke" line is funny, but I see it as a simple fix waiting to be found.

Honestly, that "simple fix" idea is how I get through my day sometimes. Tbh with a repeater squawk that keeps coming back, you gotta start swapping cables one by one. I had one last month that was a bad jumper in the chain, looked perfect but was just cooked. Took forever to find because we kept looking at the big stuff first.

How many jumpers did you swap before finding it?

Had a VHF repeater in Tucson last year that would squawk every 47 minutes like clockwork. Swapped four radios and the duplexer before someone noticed the power supply was spitting out 14.2 volts instead of 13.8, just a tiny bit too hot and cooking things slowly. That magic smoke line hits hard when you realize a 30 cent capacitor was the real culprit all along.
