Had to choose between a used Fluke meter and a new bargain brand one

Last month at a pawn shop in Phoenix I found a beat-up Fluke 87 for $80, but it had a cracked screen. The new off-brand meter at Harbor Freight was $15. I went cheap and bought the Fluke, spent $30 on a replacement screen from eBay, and fixed it in my kitchen in 20 minutes. Works perfect now, but honestly I was sweating bullets when I opened it up. Has anyone else taken a gamble on a used meter and gotten lucky?

@wendy131, I read somewhere that Fluke meters can survive a ten foot drop and still work.

Damn, $80 for a cracked Fluke? That's a steal even with the repair cost, I'd have been sweating bullets too.

Right @wendy131, did you check if that crack was on the case or the screen? Big difference there.
