Over-relying on self-tests is making us lazy troubleshooters

I keep seeing guys swap a box because the BIT says faulty, then it fails again on the bench. That test only checks half the channels, I learned that after chasing a ghost on a 737 in Atlanta for two days. Anyone else run into false positives from built-in tests that wasted your time?

Did your manual list what those half-tested channels actually cover, or did you find that out the hard way?
