Picked up a tip from an old A&P that saved me 3 hours today
Was tracing a fault on a King KX 155 nav/com. Guy I work with said check the tray pins first. Found a bent pin in 5 minutes. Would have spent all day pulling the unit and bench testing. Anyone else run into stupid simple fixes that save your shift?

Yeah, @karen_sanchez49 that furnace story reminds me of something bigger I've noticed. It's like the first thing you check is always the last thing you want to look at because it seems too simple. I've had three or four times where a loose connection or a corroded contact that took two minutes to fix turned into an hour of head scratching. It's almost like our brains are trained to look for the hard problem first because that's what pays, but the simple stuff is usually the real killer.

Tripped over a power cord to a rackmount amp once and spent 2 hours thinking the board was dead. Turned out I just yanked the power plug loose. Felt real smart when the "fix" was just plugging it back in. Happens to the best of us I guess.

Had a similar thing on a residential furnace last winter. Spent an hour checking the board and gas valve before the homeowner mentioned their cat knocked a wire loose the day before. Felt dumb but hey, it happens.
