Vent: Bought a $300 crimp tool set online that turned out to be junk for the new connectors we got in.
I'm torn between saying you should always buy the expensive, certified tools for safety or that sometimes a cheaper generic set is fine for non-critical work, so what's your rule on tool quality versus cost?

That $300 burn on a bad crimp tool is brutal.

Wait, that tool cost three hundred dollars? I have to sit down. I've seen good ones for half that price. It must have been a really fancy model or a total scam. Getting burned that hard on a single tool is just painful. I'd be fuming for a week.

Ugh, that's the worst. Honestly, for connectors, the tool has to match the brand. Even a pricey generic can mess up the wrong style.
