Dropped $250 on a water filter that failed 10 miles in

Bought one of those top-rated squeeze filters for a solo trip on the Sierra High Route last month. It clogged solid after two days and I spent a night boiling creek water with a tiny titanium pot. Anybody found a filter that actually lasts past the first three days?

failed 10 miles in" sounds about right for most of those squeeze packs honestly. I read somewhere that the key is backflushing them before they even feel clogged, like every couple liters not when it stops flowing. Could be worth trying if you ever go back to that setup.

Wait, @corablack you backflushed only three ounces in? What was your process for knowing when to do it versus just guessing?

Three ounces in on mine I backflushed it just cause I figured better safe than sorry, totally saved me halfway through a wet section where I couldn't stop. It's a pain but beats chewing on a straw for the last five miles hoping for a drop.
