Got caught in a surprise snow squall on the High Sierra Trail last October

I was near Precipice Lake and the temperature dropped 40 degrees in an hour, forcing me to set up my tent on a sloped granite slab. Now I always pack an extra emergency bivy and check the mountain forecast for 'upslope flow' conditions. Anyone have a go-to weather app for the Sierras that's better than the standard ones?

Yeah, that upslope flow is no joke. I mean, @the_wesley is right, that kind of drop is scary. I've been caught like that before and my go-to now is the NOAA point forecast. You have to dig for it on their site, but it gives you the detailed mountain weather discussion that explains the why, not just the numbers. I pair that with the Windy app to see the storm models coming in. The basic weather apps just don't cut it for real alpine conditions.

Forty degrees in an hour is absolutely wild (and terrifying). Glad you had the gear to make it work.

Come on, that's just a normal Tuesday in the mountains.
