My best day on the John Muir Trail was also my worst planning move

I hit evolution basin around noon with perfect weather and barely anyone around, best scenery I've ever seen. But I had to push 18 miles that day because I skipped a resupply stop and ran out of food. Has anyone else had a killer day on trail ruined by bad logistics?

Waited way too long to filter my water one time and ended up with giardia three days into a week long trip. That “killer view” you’re talking about turned into me scrambling behind a boulder every hour while trying to keep up mileage. People obsess over food and resupply but nobody talks about how one bad water decision can completely wreck your logistics too.

Wait, isn't that more of a gear failure than a logistics problem though?

My buddy @jenny47 once loaned his filter to someone who didn't clean it properly, and spent the next three days regretting every sip he took.
