Paid $45 for that cell service app in the backcountry and it was useless
I bought that popular offline mapping app for a 5 day trip in the Wind River Range last summer. Spent two hours downloading maps at home, thought I had it all set. Got out there and the thing kept crashing every time I tried to mark a waypoint. I ended up just using a paper map and a compass like I always have. Anyone else had a similar experience with these apps or was mine just a dud?

Did you try turning it off and back on again? I'm only half joking, I spent a whole afternoon doing that on a trail once before admitting my phone was just a very expensive paperweight.

My buddy Matt tried that for an hour before realizing his battery was dead.

Oh man, that's rough, @laura_schmidt82 I've definitely been there with tech failing at the worst time. Paper maps never let you down though, that's the real MVP.
