Warning: the PCT water report was 3 days stale and I nearly ran dry near Acton

I found out the hard way last week that the PCT water report I downloaded was from Tuesday and two key caches had already gone dry by Thursday, so has anyone else gotten burned trusting timestamps on those community water updates?

Got caught the same way myself last summer near the Mojave. I had checked a report that was only a day old, but that one afternoon of heavy foot traffic drained a cache I was counting on. Now I always carry an extra gallon bladder beyond what the reports suggest, just in case.

Turns out the PCT water report is more like a gentle suggestion than a hard fact. I swear those timestamps are printed in disappearing ink. Now I treat any cache listed as "reliable" the same way I treat a weather forecast for a sunny day - I pack for a flood anyway.

Man, that's rough. I got burned bad on the same kind of thing a couple years back, nothing worse than counting on a source and finding a dusty pipe. Hope you had enough backup water to make it through okay.
