Wasted $60 on a fancy water filter that clogged on day 2 of the John Muir Trail

Bought a top-rated Katadyn BeFree system thinking it'd save weight but the flow dropped to a trickle after filtering from one murky creek near Thousand Island Lake, had to switch to my backup tablets - anyone else had this issue with those squeeze filters?

Yeah @milam48 nailed it, Sawyer Squeeze never let me down on trail.

Dude that sucks, I feel your pain. I had the exact same problem with my BeFree on the JMT last year near Selden Pass, clogged up on a tannin-stained stream and I was stuck drinking lukewarm iodine water for two days. Those squeeze filters just don't handle anything with fine sediment or algae, it's like they're designed for crystal clear alpine lakes only. I switched to a Sawyer Squeeze after that trip and it's a little heavier but hasn't clogged on me yet.

Tried the BeFree once. Clogged first day. Sawyer all the way now.
