Went up the High Sierra Trail last month and noticed half the people were using those ultra-light titanium stoves while the other half stuck with cheap alcohol-burner setups

I mean, the titanium crowd saved weight but the alcohol guys could boil water way faster, has anyone else seen this split on long routes and which side do you lean toward?

Wait, you're saying the alcohol stoves actually boiled water faster? I always thought those things were way slower than the fancy titanium setups. Most folks I've seen on the Sierras swear by the weight savings, so that's wild to hear about the speed difference.

Yeah exactly, I had the same surprise on a trip last summer when my little alcohol stove boiled water quicker than my buddy's Jetboil.
