Finally built a proper compost bin after 3 years of talking about it
My neighbor Dave in Portland showed me his simple 3-pallet bin setup last weekend. He just tossed in kitchen scraps and leaves, no fancy turning or layering. Watched him pull out rich black dirt from the bottom that looked better than store bought. Anyone else find that simple systems work way better than the complicated guides online?

The three bin pallet system is the only one that's ever lasted more than a season at my place. KISS principle applies hard to composting.

Nah @stellaperry, three bins work fine but you gotta turn em or they just sit there.

Different strokes I guess @stellaperry, but I've had way better luck with a single big open pile than any bin system. The whole turning thing is way overblown in my opinion, I just dump stuff in a heap and let it sit for a year. Three bins take up so much space and I always end up with one that's half empty or just full of sticks. Plus pallets rot out here in like two years anyway so it's not like they're saving me money in the long run. Keep it simple sure, but simple for me is one pile and a shovel.
